Afte r seeing the big price drop, as well as the ability to hack it to play pretty much any game, I decided to pick up a Playstation Classic in the post-christmas sales
Has anyone else picked up one of these (or one of the other mini classics)?

Didn’t even know this was a thing! Cool. But I've got a PS2 that'll play PS1 games.

I still have a perfectly functional PS1 with modchip and a gameshark pro, that I got for xmas of 1997. 21 years and countless thousands of hours of playtime later, still kicking just fine.

I have not, but I’d be curious on your experience with it. What’s the game selection currently?
Makes me want to break out the ol PS1 I have stowed away.

They’ve got DD on the classic, not sure if it’s down to bad emulation of the stock system but it was next to impossible to steer that thing, don’t remember it being that bad

I could easily play ps1 games on my pc with an emulator but there was just something cool about having the mini ps1 as well as the original digital only controllers

the laser failed on my original ps1 :(

Same, I use my ps3 for that too.

i think it might be coz new games are so much better.... ive pretty much vowed to never go back to old games and keep my fond memories
(dd raw being an exception.. as ive never played it beyond the demo...im sure it wont blow my mind now like it would have then)

Slightly odd collection but the official 20 are;
Battle Arena Toshinden
Cool Boarders 2
Destruction Derby
Final Fantasy VII
Grand Theft Auto
Intelligent Qube
Jumping Flash!
Metal Gear Solid
Mr. Driller
Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
Rayman
Resident Evil Director’s Cut
Revelations: Persona
Ridge Racer Type 4
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
Syphon Filter
Tekken 3
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
Twisted Metal
Wild Arms
T hough the console has no security on it whatsoever meaning you can plug in a usb and run games off that (though they are working on ways to not have to use a usb stick as it takes up a controller port)

huh... no offical spyro = no COFL buying it

I did think that, being used to analog steering with precise inputs, the digital input of the dpad was never great but I might try downloading it to play it through the hacked emulation to see if its different

I think it was due to the remaster being released, however nothing stopping you from downloading the game and running it from a usb stick

I’ve got one of those too

That game is so much fun!

Kids these days, I’m still rocking my original PS2 after my 4th PS3 shit the bed. 15+ yrs and the old girl’s still rocking.

sure looked it from the demo
but my local shops never stocked it... and ordering online wasnt really possible yet (without a debit/creditcard)
so i missed out on it

I’ve got my original NES tucked away somewhere, however both my ps1 and ps2 lasers failed so they were no good

You can get a replacement for about $12

I don’t think I have the original anymore

me mum gave my original nes and a basket full of games away.... my amiga too
was a little annoyed at her for not asking first.... but it went to a school for a bunch of first and second graders to bum around with
thats a better use than having it lying around for me to maybe one day play again or sell...
but still... damnit mum :p

Had the same with an Atari Lynx, it was technically my brothers but he moved out and gave it to my mum, I played it for a bit then she just got rid of it without asking me

I would be really tempted if the actual emulator was better than it is. The emulator issues turn me off from buying it for the hacking potentials. Instead I’ll just spend my money on retro controllers and adapters for use with my PC.

the hacking bit is replacing the emulator itself iirc, think they are using a system known as retroarch

Last I had heard they were just injecting ROMs into the existing emulator. If they are able to replace the emulator I might be tempted.

As the classic has only recently been released there isn’t much out for it currently however this is something to keep an eye on https://modmyclassic.com/?page_id=1229
I’m currently in the process of using the bleemsync method as I type this to get some games loaded and see how it goes but will try the above software once out of beta

Spyro and Crash both got the cut from the Classic due to the recent remasters.

What I’m planning on doing this year is build a htpc that can also emulate some games. Probably get an old desktop , and throw in a cheap gpu ( so it can do ps2 games) and an SSD for a boot drive.

I haven’t tried PS2 on my laptop yet but I can run Gamecube games through Dolphin easily without having to use my GPU. Of course I do end up using my GPU anyway because that generation of games looks gorgeous when you upscale them to 4k and beyond.

it seems like we are getting very close to the emulator being replaced; https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaystationClassic/comments/abuq1m/bleemsync_dev_vlog_3_successfully_enabling_back/
